Nancy's favorites Sheri S. Tepper/-"The Family Tree" Sheri Tepper is one of my favorite Science Fiction authors - she writes with a bite that makes me think, but so fascinating that it's painless. The latest I've read was actually written in 1997 but is not "dated". We have two story lines, one 3,000 years in the future with members of various tribes on a quest; and a contemporary line about a heroine living in a fruitless relationship. As the stories get closer and closer together and then merge, there is a bang up surprise. This was a highly entertaining story while dealing with a major issue close to Chief Seattle's heart, there are animals galore. This was one of the best stories I've read in a long while, hard to have it end because I liked the characters so much. Try some of the Harlequin Intrigue series, Harlequin has come a long way! These are today's settings, thrillers that are short and sweet, wrapped up with a romance in each, of course; but lovely quick reads for pure escapism. Silhouette, not to be left out, has come up with the Bombshell group to compete. I'm not sure who was first on base, but either will give you an enjoyable read. Reminds me of Mary Stewart, if you remember her stories, although they were mostly cold war spy stories. |
