Mostly Books has two monthly book clubs. The next meeting of the nonfiction group is scheduled for May 3rd from 1-2 PM. We are reading and discussing Jon Krakauer's Under the Banner of Heaven. This book is a compelling store of the FLDS and a double homicide. The timely story has the history of the Mormon church and how the FLDS came to be. Krakauer is the author of several other bestselling books, Into Thin Air and Into the Wild. If you don't already have the book, we offer a discount to all book club members. The fiction club will meet May 17th from 1-2 PM. We will be discussing Booked to Die by John Dunning. This first book in his mystery series introduces Cliff Janeway, the retired cop, bookstore owner and rare book dealer. A fascinating look at the world of books and book deals and a really good mystery. The entire series is great and teaches a lot about books. A booklovers dream! The last meeting of our books club featured Susan Cummins Miller, author of Hoodoo as well as the other books in that mystery series and a new historical book. She spoke about her series as well as the new book. It was wonderful and really special to have the author of the book at our event. Our first book club meeting was outstanding. We
all read Sleeping with Schubert by Bonnie Marson. We
listened to the music of Schubert while discussing the book with Bonnie and the
group. Having the author at the store and discussing her ideas, characters
and plot lines added such a depth to our discussion, we want to have as many
authors visit us as possible. Bonnie was the perfect author to join us to
kick off our new group. She has left us information for other book clubs
so call of you want to have her come to your group in person or by phone. |
